This setup is for a College of about 6000 Students, mostly a Dell & Microsoft shop

Directly managed:
  • Active Directory Integration for User Auth (more server info below)
  • OS Version: Mainly 10.5 Leopard, with a sprinkling of 10.4 Tiger left over, with a few testing 10.6 Snow Leopard
  • 1 Lab of 25 White iMac Intel C2D 2.33ghz, 2GB Ram, 300Gig HDDs
  • 1 Open Lab of 3 White iMac Intel C2D 2.33Ghz 2GB ram, 300Gig HDDs
  • ~30 Staff Machines (and growing), ranging from iMac/PowerMac G5's to Spring '09 Aluminum iMacs, including Macbook Pros
  • 8 Buildings
  • Connected via 100mbit, with 1Gbit/s links between building
  • All labs are own their own subnet, along with a separate staff subnet
  • 1 Spring '07 Intel XServe ( 2x Dual Core Intel Xeon 2ghz, 4GB Ram, 1x 80GB, 2x 320GB HDDs, running 10.5.8, Dual 1Gig links-non-bonded)
  • Netboot from each lab/staff subnet to the XServe for imaging purposes
  • 4 personnel handing Mac Support

Indirectly:
  • ~10 Labs, ranging from iMac/PowerMac G5 to Spring '09 Aluminum iMacs
  • OS Version: Mainly 10.5 Leopard, Sprinkling of 10.4 Tiger
  • 3 personnel handing Mac support in this area

Server Setup:
  • Machines bound to Active Directory infrastructure for Kerberos and User Authentication
  • Machines also bound to the XServe acting as a Open Directory Master
  • One older PowerMac G5 acting purely as a OD Slave
  • Local Software Update Repository

Future Plans:
Either purchase another XServe with, or purchase a Fibre Channel card for the current XServe, to connect the XServe up to the College's SAN (IBM), mainly for image storage.
